laundry saver
Here’s a quick tip I picked up over at Mothering Many that has really saved my skin lately in the laundry department. It saves time, it saves a few pennies and so far in the past month it’s kept the boys karate and baseball gear very clean!
Dish soap instead of laundry detergent. Yup, that’s it plain ole’ dish soap. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before! I have always used a quick squirt of dish soap to treat stains and extra filthy spots on the boys clothes. When I read the post about this easy substitute it was like a light bulb went on in my head. Duh, Loretta, just wash the clothes with it.
Mothering Many suggests using about a tablespoon for a normal sized load, about a tablespoon and a half for a super capacity machine of whatever you have sitting by the sink, I’ve been using some pretty smelling Dawn Ultra type of dish soap for the past few weeks and that seems to be working pretty well. I admit I’ve only been using on the small loads, baseball stuff, karate stuff (whites, and I’m not adding any bleach!), things that are getting washed frequently and have to be washed in the smaller loads, sometimes by themselves. I figured the boys stinky sports gear would be a good test of the effectiveness, and thus far I am pleased. Once my regular laundry detergent runs out I will probably not be buying any more of that. The price difference between laundry detergent and dish soap is a pretty big one and I do a lot of laundry per week, at least 5 loads of clothes alone, then there is a load of towels, sports stuff, bedding. The pile is endless.

5 loads? I laugh at your 5 loads! You save pennies with this tip, but I save dollars, bwahahahahah.

5 loads? Yeah, I’m not getting over that one either. If I could get away with 5 loads, everything would be folded and put away instead of on my couch all the time. lmao
Hmm, does it really work? I know you said it does, but I’m so skeptical. I’m gonna run out of laundry soap soon. Does it mess up the rinse cycle and such?
