not so fun in the sun
It’s summertime and the kids are playing outside more and getting some much needed fresh air! Lots of fun things going on and hitting the pool and or playground is generally on the agenda for a lot of families with kids. Who would have guessed that something as fun and innocent looking as an average playground slide could cause a second degree burn on your child.
Oh yeah, a second degree burn. All blistery and painful and all from going down a plastic slide. Plastic, not metal, plastic. That’s what happened to Laura’s little girl recently while they were playing outside having a good time with some friends. I was so shocked when she told us about it. And this happened in the early part of the day too, not in the middle of the sun beating down on you hot part of the day. Can you imagine what might have happened later in the day? I hope poor little Mallory is feeling better now.
I urge you to read the whole story if you have children, there are pictures of the burn (not on the article page but that you can click through to see) it’s a bit difficult to look at, but if you have kids that like to play on the playground it’s definitely good information to take a look at. Stay safe and have a fun summer!

Thanks for spreading the word!
Mallory is doing SO much better. It’s been 2 weeks today. I don’t think she’s even going to have a scar!

No scar would be an awesome thing for her! So glad she’s feeling better.

it happened to my friend the same thing
Still having big yellow-grey burn spots on the face after more than a year.
Never would have imagined something like that!

Thank you for a great reminder! I still recall sliding down a hot metal slide as a kid and how very painful that was. I didn’t get burned like Mallory, but I haven’t forgotten it after all these years.

That’s terrible! I’m glad to hear she’s doing better. I never thought about a slide being dangerous - at least not in that way.
