Squirrels & Girls

I let Dylan walk over to the playground in the community to take some time to himself and get away from his brothers. He wasn’t gone very long before he returned. He came in and sat in the office with me while I work on some things here and I asked him what was the matter that he got back so fast. It went a bit like this;

Me: Wow, you got back fast. Was the maintenance crew over there cleaning up leaves or something?

Dylan: No, there was nothing to do. There was just a squirrel I stared at and stared back at me.

(I misheard him because the dishwasher is running and it’s kind of loud and he was mumbling and talking to the bookshelf….I thought he said “girl” when he said “squirrel”)

Me: Oh, so there was a girl?

Dylan: No. There was a squirrel. Duh mom, if there was a girl I’d have stayed.

At which point he smirked and walked out of the office to go read his comic book….
