I’m sure you’ve noticed that one of the things I like to talk about on the blog is things we use, buy, or are shopping around for. A deal is my favorite thing to find in a store. I am not alone. We all have to shop eventually, right? I mean we need food, and clothes, and school supplies! -lol- Lisa is also telling you about the things she buys, uses, and shops for over at her blog, appropriately named Lisa Reviews. Check out this cool blue theme!
Recently she talked about one of my favorite kids educational tool makers, Leap Frog. While my kids are quickly outgrowing the cute little Leap stories, I am always happy to hear others that are using them and enjoying them. Leap and his phonics friends were a real life saver for me when my boys started school and learning to read. The schools were using phonics methods for reading, and that’s not I was taught to read so it was hard for me when one of the boys was struggling with something.
I didn’t want to confuse them by switching reading methods mid-lesson on them so I talked to the teacher. She said a lot of parents with kids that age are experiencing the same exact thing I was. What a relief that was ’cause I felt like a great big dummy that couldn’t read! She gave us some flash cards and recommended leap pad. We actually already had the electronic leap pad at home, but I only had a few books for it. So we went out and got MORE books for it and picked the activity style books. Oh, the amazing difference it made, everything went so much smoother and faster after that.

What really amazes me even more is the new stuff that LeapFrog is always coming out with. I want to get Lucas a turbo twist for spelling because he does struggle there a bit. I haven’t picked it up yet, I actually want to go to the store in the mall and try it out first before I buy it. But, honestly anything that can take spelling and make it fun for Lucas is a winner in my book. It’s the one thing that really frustrated him last year. After having to “catch up” a little bit in the reading department. Of course it seems that kids that struggle with reading do struggle with spelling also. It only makes sense! So now that he is more on target with reading I’m hoping that the spelling will slowly start to improve as well.
There are other kinds of Turbo Twists, I know I have seen math ones. Dylan actually asked for a math one last year for his birthday but he’s such a math whiz I figured he’d get bored with it too quickly. Did you know fourth graders do algebra? Yeah….I didn’t take any algebra classes until college. He should be helping me with my homework!

Thanks for the link! I love Leapfrog products. We have thing that plugs into the TV and Leap Frog story thing too. That spelling thing looks really cool. I am sure we will end up buying that too.
