Ew! There’s a thing in my corn!

I think I have mentioned before that I really like the Steamfresh veggies. They are way better than other frozen bagged veggies, and just the right amount in the bag. And I never have to add anything to them, no butter, no salt, nothing. They are generally great the way they are. Unfortunately our dinner Thursday night was not the same as generally.

I put in the microwave for 5:10 just like always. I could smell the fresh corn. Yummy! The rice was almost done and the chicken was ready to take out of the crock pot. I tore the top of the Steamfresh bag and poured the corn into the bowl. Gave it a little shake to get the corn out of the corners when something dark colored fell out of the bag. What the heck? Did I burn the corn? No, these never burn. What is that?

stuff in my corn

I have no idea what it really is and I really don’t want to know. The picture isn’t that clear, and it looks like the edge of whatever it is get blackened in the heating process. It was all stuck in the corner of the bag too. Brian thinks it’s part of a moth cocoon or something that just didn’t get removed when the corn was shucked. I really don’t care to know what it is just that it doesn’t belong in my corn. I looked at it under every light in the house trying to convince myself that it “could be” part of the corn. I’ve picked and shucked a billion ears of corn and I just couldn’t pin this as recognizably part of an ear of corn. We agreed that for safety sake we would just dump the corn. Chicken and rice for dinner it is.

Added note. Lucas said “Mom took a picture, she’s going to go blog after dinner,” as part of the boys before dinner conversation at the table. Such a smart little boy.

  1. Ewwwwwww!! It would take me a while to even eat frozen corn again! LOL!

(I just love that Lucas! He ‘gets’ us, huh? Heeheee!!!)

  2. Sorry about the corn. That would have really sucked! But at least your kids have gotten the picture. LOL

  3. Ugh!!! I buy that corn! Ugh!!

  4. These days it could be part of an ear of anything or anyone! I found half a cockroach in my Pico De Gallo a while back. The restaurant’s solution was to replace my meal, I told them NO WAY! Who knew where the other half was!

  5. [...] Ew! There’s a thing in my corn! - This cracked me up because things like this have happened me before. There’s nothing quite so gross like finding a foreign object in your food. It’s a bit of an appetite killer for me. I usually just toss the whole thing out and make something else. [...]

  6. Looks like it may have been corn fungus. Corn fungus is actually quite good and is something of a delicacy in Mexico and Central America. You can buy it canned at some Mexican grocers.
