Cheesy Brat Stew ~ reader submitter
This recipe posting is long overdue! I am still digging up fall recipes and I promise to share some good findings with you. This recipe was submitted by the lovely and dear Cass over at Mothering Many. In case you haven’t met Cass yet and you are wondering how many is many? That would eight.
To give you an idea of how overdue this post is, the first time I made this we had a baseball game. Baseball ended in June -lol- and yes, I said the first time. I’ve made it two more times since then. The pictures are from the first time I made it, from the old apartment and a different camera. LOL But, better late then never.
This is how Cass makes Cheesy Brat Stew:
* 2 lb kielbasa, sliced about 1/2 inch thick
* one family sized can Cream of Mushroom soup
* one jar ragu cheese sauce
* cooked potatoes, either fresh or canned or frozen, half a pound to a pound
* one to two pounds frozen vegetables—green beans, broccoli, mixed– whatever you likeMix it all together and bake at 350 for about an hour. Serve with salad and/or bread.

I admit to cheating on my task and altering the recipe a bit. I am not too fond of Ragu’s cheese sauce so I replaced that with Campbell’s broccoli cheese soup, undiluted. And I didn’t mix in the frozen veggies. I grabbed some steam fresh broccoli and steamed it just before we were ready to eat. I no likey mushy broccoli and I was afraid it would get mushy sitting in the crock pot all day. Oh yeah, I made mine in the crock pot instead of the oven. I tossed everything but the broccoli into the pot, gave it a stir and let it cook on low all day while I did all my crazy stuff.
all mixed up and cooking in crock

Steamed the broccoli and split it up into bowls
A loaf of fresh bread from the bakery or some croissants are great on the side for dipping in the cheesy sauce! Seeing as I’ve made it a few more times since then I’m sure you can guess that we liked it. Kielbasa is a favorite food in our house, even for Lucas the picky kid. -lol-

Technically Lucas only ate the kielbasa part, no potatoes for him. But he does like his kielbasa. But, he still ate some and he liked the fresh bread on the side of course.
The first time we had this Ethan had three bowls. THREE! Yeah, he liked it pretty well and he always wants the leftovers the next day ~ that is if he doesn’t eat the whole pot worth!
Brian and I both liked it as well, then again anything with kielbasa in it is generally a good fit for us! Same goes for Dylan who just needs to hear the word kielbasa, and he is sitting at the table with a fork ready to eat.
Noah has remained surprisingly neutral on this one. He doesn’t request it, he likes seems to prefer his kielbasa grilled, on a bun, and with lots of ketchup! That’s not to say he didn’t like it but I think he likes the broccoli part more than the kielbasa part, it is his favorite veggie after all. Yes, really.
Well folks there you have it. Cheesy Brat Stew ~ go make some and try it for yourself.

ooh, cheese broccoli soup! I’ll have to try that, because the Ragu isn’t my favorite, either!

Sounds interesting! I’ll have to pass this recipe on to my mom, I think it’s something her and Harold would like.
I sent you mail today… Hope you get it quickly!

Man that looks good! I’m all over crock pot stuff now that I’m working evenings. lol I’ll definitely be using the cheesy broccoli soup or the cheddar soup though. I don’t care for Ragu spaghetti sauce, have no idea on the cheese sauce.

That looks delicious! I’ve never eaten kielbasa that way. I don’t have a crock pot though.

Wow! Great idea though I’d have to forgo the brocoli. No way my husband is going to eat the brocoli, much less than kids. I usually substitute peas for the brocoli.
