who comes up with these prices?

Lisa was just talking on her blog about how good her hubby looked in cargo pants. She looked around and came across a nice pair of cargos at volcom clothing, but they were $150. For a pair of pants. PANTS!! Pants are pretty much a necessity since it’s illegal to go walking about naked. Unless the threads are made of precious metals, I’m afraid 150 dollars for a pair of ordinary looking cargos is a bit too much. This whole “paying for labels” and whatnot baffles me.

I grew up in a paycheck to paycheck family of 5 girls - needless to say “name brand” wasn’t happening in our house. Unless of course we used some of our own money from babysitting or delivering newspapers and then we could go to “Factory Outlet” and buy some “Angel Wings” jeans. That’s as far as I ever delved into the realm of “name brand” purchasing.
Sure if I find something “name brand” at the thrift store or garage sale - I can smile at the fact that I have something “name brand” but didn’t pay full price for it. But ummmm how is anyone going to know it’s name brand unless I leave the tag hanging out for everyone to read or have a sweatshirt with the name brand or logo emblazoned across the front (which isn’t my style anyway).
I think we don’t “get” the name brand obsession b/c there really isn’t anything to it.
I’m all for quality at a reasonable price - but that’s it.
