Pay it forward lives on…
I was reading a news article recently about a bank that gave its full-time employees $1,000 each and part-time employees $500 each over the holiday season. There was just one catch, they had to use it to help someone in need.
State Bank & Trust Chief Operating Officer Michael Solberg said the payments are part of a $502,000 “Pay it Forward” initiative.
“We’re going to really see some huge impact on our community,” Solberg said.
If you’ve ever seen the movie Pay It Forward or heard a Pay It Forward
story, then you know how powerful the whole thing can truly be. It brings out the best in people! If only we had more companies like this in America. I can’t wait to see what the results of this project are!
Employees were told not to use the money for themselves, their families or families of other bank employees. The bank asked each employee to document the good deed with a video camera. The deadline is June 30.
The employees were told they may choose an individual cause, pool their money for a larger project or collaborate with donors outside the bank. The privately owned bank has more than 500 employees, he said.
If you had a couple thousand dollars right now would you Pay It Forward or go for some huge land investment? I know what I’d pick. Land is boring anyway.

When I was a kid I always used to see commercials on TV for charities. Whenever I would ask my mother why we couldn’t donate, she’d always inform me that it’d be kind of redundant to donate to charities since we were already receiving charity due to situations beyond our control.
So, while I do understand your logic I would opt to put myself in a secure financial situation instead.
If I’m secure financially I’m much more capable of donating larger quantities of money to charity at a later date.
