snacktime & Cheerios Snack Mix
Every day my kids have snack time at school. (Except for Wednesday because they only have half days on Wednesdays.) This is mostly due to the incompetence and not being able to organize a decent lunch schedule. Some of the kids eat lunch way too early at about 10:30, when school starts at 9:00 am and most of them have only just eaten breakfast. Some of the kids eat lunch way too late at around 1:45 and they are ravenous little creatures by then.
Some of the early eating classes will go get lunch and bring it back to the classroom and then they don’t have to eat it right that moment if they aren’t hungry. But it makes a mess, and it’s a lot of work for the teacher. I can only imagine the amount of wasted food that gets tossed out from that particular lunch time and kids not really being interested in having lunch yet. All the classes allow a healthy snack to be brought so that your child isn’t crazy hungry in the morning or late into the afternoon depending on their lunch time.
One of the recent snacks I tried out on the kids was Cheerios Snack Mix. I measured it out into the kids snack containers, yes containers, we avoid using zippie bags and creating excess trash whenever we can so we have plenty of snack and bento containers. They came back with mixed reviews on the mix. Ethan loved it and was happy to finish off what was leftover in the bag! Noah finished his off, but didn’t ask for anymore. Lucas enjoyed it and he munched on some the following day too. Dylan was the naysayer on this snack and asked for a replacement snack. Kids. LOL
As you can imagine with four kids munching away on snack mix the hubby and I didn’t really get much of it to try. I had a few little nibbles, probably not even a small handful! It was crunchy, and not salty tasting at all so I was happy with the little bit that I tried myself.
If you’re curious about the nutritional stats of this baked-not-fried snackage so …. a 2/3 cup serving has 120 calories, 3 grams of fat (0 grams of trans fat), 1 gram of fiber, and 3 grams of protein. The sodium content is tiny bit high though not bad in comparison to many other prepackaged snacks, 310 milligrams per serving, and that’s assuming you stop after just 2/3 cup.

I hear ya on the “avoiding zippie bags” but our for the moment, it’s just way easier since the kids are so young. I haven’t heard of the snack mix yet, but we always make our own Cheerios Snack Mix for car rides, which basically consists of a lot of regular cheerios mixed with the new Fruit Cheerios. Our oldest son has a lot of food allergies (peanut and tree nut), so I’m betting this Cheerios snack mix won’t even be a viable option for us anyways.
