It’s Saturday, as you probably already know for us that means Ethan and Lucas had karate this afternoon. Two weeks ago when we arrived to class people were filing back out, the rest of the day had been canceled. When I asked what happened the lady at the sign in area told me that their instructor was feeling sick, and a passing parent confirmed as he walked by me saying the same thing. Last week class was also canceled and we were told that he was still not feeling well. Today there was class again, and the boys were so excited to be back!

What we hadn’t been told was that Master T, their instructor had actually had a heart attack in class that day two weeks ago. Here all that time we thought he had the nasty string of flu that was going around! Major difference. When he said this I was surprised that he was resuming class already … I was thinking “holy smokes you just had a heart attack two weeks ago!” But he took it easy and let the higher ranking belts in the class do the demos and he went around and worked one on one with some of the younger students, like Ethan, on perfecting techniques. Of course all the kids love any one on one time so it was a great class.

You’re probably wondering what my point here is. This is a man that is in very good shape, and very healthy otherwise. He has been the boys instructor for over a year now and I’ve never seen him ill or tired. He has a passion for what he does and he is very active and fun person, the boys absolutely adore him to bits. And just to hear him say that two weeks ago he had a heart attack put into perspective that anything can happen to anyone at any time. He’s doing great right now, full recovery .. but just the thought floating around in my mind about the unknown and crazy things that happen. I suppose I’ve rambled enough about the topic for today.
