tornadoes tear up Virginia
Most of you know that we currently reside in Newport News, VA, I don’t keep my location a secret. I’ve had loads of phone calls, messages, IM’s, tweets, emails and more asking me if any of today’s devastation was near us. I count my blessings that I can sit here and tell you that there was no tornado near my home. It was black as night here around 4:00 PM when my boys were getting home from school. Dark, raining buckets, and just a yuck weather outlook.

Little did I know that not far from us mother nature was ripping her way from Suffolk to Norfolk. Those places aren’t far, but they aren’t close either. They just kind of are. And right now they just are… a mess. Hundreds of people were injured in today’s tornado havoc, and at least one person lost their life. I just want to cry for all of these people when I see the pictures popping online and on the news tonight. I take that back … I am crying.

From what I’ve read and heard there were 3 tornadoes today. One actually cut a path all the way from Suffolk into Norfolk. Just seeing that in my mind frightens me. I can’t imagine how scary that had to be in person for these people. About 6,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers remained without service Monday night, 6,000 is a lot! Yikes! Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, has of course, declared a state of emergency for the areas of southeastern Virginia struck by the twisters today. Please keep the families affected by this in your thoughts tonight as you drift off to sleep and hope that tomorrow is a better and brighter day for them.

Looking through all of the pictures online, I can’t believe the chaos and the pain unleashed by the weather - just like that! It is amazing and amazingly awful all at the same time. Amazing, only in a respectful and scared awe of nature. I’ll say a prayer for those affected.

That’s good that the tornadoes weren’t close to you…well by close you know what I mean, close enough that they hit your area. You are right to count your blessings for that. And it’s so sad looking at those pictures, especially the one with the cars! Jeez! How scary.
It reminds me once again that I honestly need to stop complaining about living in Michigan. Here we don’t deal with nearly anything that the other states do. Very very rarely do we ever even have tornado spottings let alone one that touches down. About the only thing we deal with here is snow and lots of it but I guess I should be looking at that as a blessing.
I’ll definitely be saying a prayer for all the lives that were affected by these tornadoes!

So glad you are ok. It sounds really scary. Hope things approach “normal” in your area soon.

I have to say I’ve driven through the area and it seems to have bounced back great. I grew up in Suffolk Va and I’ve seen it grow and I was there when the storm hit, it really tore things up and I was surprised how fast the storm hit and how fast things bounced back.
