passing on the gout haters cookbook
I had an Amazon gift certificate to spend, so I was going to get the Gout Hater’s Cookbook that I mentioned earlier. I noticed that it had the option to look inside and see the table of contents, so I clicked on that to check out the recipe list before buying. Glad I did that!! One of the first recipes was “Broccoli Bake” and hello…. no broccoli for gout suffers. It’s one of the top foods NOT to eat! I browsed through the recipes a little further only to find french onion soup, and you guessed it no onions. Then I find a quiche with three kinds of cheese, onions, and celery …. all of which are on the don’t eat this list. I was sadly disappointed. I am just going to have to come up with my own recipe list, do some research and get creative.
In the meantime I figured I could spend the gift certificate on children’s books instead. The boys missed the last book fair at school and we’ll definitely be needing some summer reading material. I saw some Puffin Classics the other day and realized that there aren’t a lot of new “classic” style kid’s books lately. And now I’ve got mister 11 year old, preteen, I’m going to be in 6th grade super big kid and he wants books for teenagers. I guess that makes sense, he does read on a higher level, but finding things that he likes to read about that are on his reading level isn’t always an easy task. I think we might have to make a trip over to the library and let him poke around the juniors section, or whatever they call it these days.

maybe it’s not a book for people who hate gout… but a book for people who hate people who have gout! Too bad about the cookbook not being what you wanted though!
