An AquaDot by any other name…
…. is still an AquaDot! Even if you call it a Pixos and include lots of shiny new free bonuses. I just saw a commercial for these evil little toys that were recalled last year. They still work the same “spray on some water” and they look exactly the same, and they even make the same patterns with them in the commercial as before.
Am I the only that’s deeply disturbed by this reappearance after AquaDots landed several children in the hospital in a coma? How many names has this rotten product gone by? Bindeez, Aqua Dots, Beados and now as Pixos in the hopes that people will forget about the massive recall and the little children that suffered from this horrible creation.

I haven’t seen the commercials yet for these. I almost bought these for Madison right before they got recalled.

In all fairness, there’s nothing about the design of Bindeez that is hazardous. One factory decided to be cheap and substitute the chemicals, resulting in a worldwide panic. Yes, it is terrible that some kids got sick, but does the toy design need to be retired forever just because of this? I’d imagine that the company is keeping a MUCH closer eye on what’s going into their toys now…not to mention the fact that they are NOT INTENDED TO BE EATEN. I can’t believe that a ten-year-old girl, one of the first to get sick, didn’t know better. I never would have eaten something like that when I was ten.

Martha and Liz, thanks for more info on these. I’d never heard of them before.

First, this product hasn’t been changing it’s name to hide like you’re stating. ‘Bindeez’ is the Australian name for them. Reselling the toy as “Aqua Dots” probably would cause confusion and the consumers wouldn’t know if that’s the hazardous toy to buy. Think of “Pixos” as a clean slate.
I don’t understand why you’re still calling this toy “evil”. Sure, Aqua dots are very hazardous and they shouldn’t have been cheap to use bad chemicals, but then again parents should make sure their kids know better not to eat their toys anyway. I just saw the commerical, but I think it’s a good thing that these are now “safely tested” This toy set was a big hit for kids, and if they’re truly safe and children can’t get sick from them, then whats the problem? Now kids can have the toy they want and parents don’t have to worry.

There are three different variations of what was Aquadots, that was their marketing plan to market in several different countries. The commercial says they are safety tested now, but I still wouldn’t buy them.
Ethan used to want AquaDots really bad. When the Pixos commercials started he was actually angry about them because he had heard the news stories about what happened to those kids from AquaDots.
Granted Ethan is 7 and I don’t have to worry about him eating his toys anymore, but we have pets and if one of those little suckers got on the floor and the dog or cat ate it and wound up in a coma we’d feel awful.
With the 10 year old I can only imagine that she was holding it or something and fumbling around and ended up putting it in her mouth for a minute. I know I’ve done that with beads when I was beading, stuck the bead between my teeth so that it wouldn’t roll away on the floor. Sometimes weird things just happen.
