Did you know that over 115 million Cabbage Patch Kids have been adopted since 1983? They hold the record for the best selling large doll of all time.
I’ll admit to you that I owned at least 7 of those kids when I was little. In fact, Cabbage Patch dolls are the only dolls that ever won my heart as a little girl. I wasn’t much into dolls, and I’m sure a few people will pop by to tell you how as a child I melted the Barbie dolls my aunt gave me for my birthday and holidays. They just weren’t my thing.
I didn’t want to be a blond girl with boobies to kingdom come and I sure as heck didn’t want to wear those dang shoes. Did you see what they did to poor Barbie’s feet? Who wants to walk around tippie toed all the time.
Cabbage Patch Kids were different. They wanted to be kids, not grownups, not anything else, just kids being kids and having fun. And that was something that had my attention better than any other doll on the planet ever could. 25 years and we’re all still kids. That couldn’t be more true!
I was lucky enough to get one of these great 25th anniversary Cabbage Patch Dolls in the original Cabbage Patch design. As these adorable cuties reach store shelves you’ll want to go Find Your Match in the Cabbage Patch. Each Cabbage Patch doll is still 100 percent original and unique. They have names, birthdays, adoption certificates and I’m sure you fondly recall that they have autographed bottoms. (The name Xavier Roberts is so permanently implanted in my memory from changing the diapers and clothes on my dolls that Xavier just happens to be Luke’s middle name.)
Now, as most of you already know I have a house full of testosterone here and the boys were less than interested in the adorable cutie that I received. I was tempted to keep her all for myself, because let’s face it I’m a kid at heart. Then I toyed with the idea of giving it to my niece for her upcoming birthday. But, with all these Oliver boys running around she’s become a bit of a tomboy, dolls really just aren’t her thing.
So I came to a decision. I’m here to give away my Limited Edition 25th Anniversary Cabbage Patch Doll to one lucky reader of this blog. This contest will start now and run through Friday September 26, 2008 - which is, funny enough, my wedding Anniversary!
What You’ll Win:
This 25th Anniversary Cabbage Doll, with special edition Xavier Roberts signature, a silver anniversary baby spoon, commemorative stamped 25th anniversary birth certificate and adoption papers. Retail value of approximately 30 dollars and full of adorable cuteness. I haven’t removed her from her packaging yet, so here are some pics just so you know I’m not pulling your leg about the cuteness!
Safely packed in a shipping box:

The adorable details on her paperwork:
Name: Socorro Carmelita
Born in the Cabbage Patch: September 24
She’s wearing a pale purple dress with white and navy blue trimming and white buttons, white socks, and white shoes. She’s got dark brown hair and blue eyes.

Just to get you started with the trip down memory lane….
My favorite Cabbage Doll that I ever owned was actually one of the “babies” and his name was Maxwell Chad. He had the little yellow pacifier, he had a blad little baby head that smelled like baby powder, and my grandma got me all the extra goodies so I could change his diapers and his little bootie socks.
Other girls thought it was weird that I had a boy Cabbage Patch doll, but I didn’t care what they thought. Pink and frilly was never my thing. I guess I was practicing for a life full of boyish things even way back then.
Thank you for stopping by and good luck in the contest!

What a cutie pie!! I remember my first (and only) CPK doll. Her name was Norma Billie! I always wanted more than one, but my parents never got me another one. So, I vowed that my daughter would have more than one!! She now has three and would LOVE to add this one to her collection!

I’m still devastated that my Cabbage Patch doll was accidentally given to Goodwill when I was in middle school. Poor Elizabeth with her blond crimped hair, and her little purple velvet workout suit.

I love how we remember their names!
I remember how I was so upset that I was the only girl in my class that didn’t have one! I pitched weekly fits until my frugal family caved. My sister and I both still have our first Cabbage Patch Kids! My daught has one now, and treasures it!

My memories of Cabbage Patch Dolls were that I really really wanted one but my mom or dad would never get me one. Instead they got this one made for me. She was huge. I didn’t love her as much as if I had got a real Cabbage Patch Doll.
I had a bald “premie” girl named Patriciad. She had a pacifier! I loved that doll. I carried her to our family portrait in 1984 and she is in our picture! I had a boy doll named Torrey Quincy. I would LOVE to have Socorro Carmelita!
I was a tom boy too, oddly enough, but I loved my Cabbage Patch Dolls!
I got a Cabbage Patch Kid before I ever asked for one, so I never yearned for one the way other kids did. But I did want a cradle for her, so very much! And I remember one Christmas morning coming downstairs to see a perfectly sized cradle! I went nuts.
I remember that I never had one.

OMG! What a great give away!! I remember stealing my sister’s cabbage patch doll clothes so mine was pretty and hers was naked! Sounds dumb now, but made sense then!
My Cabbage Patch doll’s name was Ethel Serena. She had blonde hair and a purple dress. I recently gave it to my daugther.
Julies last blog post..Tackle it Tuesday #2
well my first daughter loved hers so much you could see the wear marks- but she was loved and hair brushed - they are so beautiful and mean so much-
My daughter has a baby Cabbage patch doll, and his given name is Sebastian Denzel. Seriously. Try teaching a baby to say that! She calls him Bash-un.

I love CPK. I always have. When I was a kid, I had a redhead named Sarah Elizabeth. My grand-daddy was a master at making things so he made me a doll cradle and carved her name into it. I still have it, and ALL of my CBK I’ve collected throughout the years. Someday, it will be MY daughter’s to play with.
On another note, I’ve always wanted to be a Cabbage Patch Namer. I think it would be the best job in the whole world!

My favorite memory was the Cabbage Patch Kids record my parents bought me when I was 3 or 4 years old. I learned the songs by heart and sang them, with a country twang, when friends and relatives came by to visit. Now my mom has the tape of the music and they play it for my little girl, Suzi. They are always trying to make me sing the songs again but I refuse. I do sing them for Suzi when we are alone, though
A second memory is visiting Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia. We went this past Sunday. They have all these adorable handmade dolls with cloth faces set up in the different rooms. There’s a classroom full of kids at desks and even on a little school bus. My favorite room is the nursery. They have teensy little bald babies in old-fashioned incubators and cribs. Every half hour or so, a “doctor” comes to the center of the building to help Mother Cabbage deliver her baby. The first time my parents took me to this place, I thought I was dreaming. It was amazing. I loved seeing my daughter pick out her first doll there. My mom blogged it: http://knottedapronstrings.blogspot.com/2008/09/where-do-babies-come-from-cabbage-patch.html
There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Cabbage Patch Kids. (And not, as you said, for Barbies. I hope no one ever buys Suzi any of those.) And that is a lovely doll, so I’m going to get to work now on the bonus entries!

LOL my mom was so excited when she came home with my cabbage patch that first holiday they were out.. sadly the only one she could get had a bright yellow dress and i HATEd the color yellow.. that poor doll was naked for years.
I don’t remember her name but I remember having one. I was a bit overwhelmed by the adoption certificate , I was really young. - the best part for me was that she had a bone fide name. - Good memories.
I had one when I was a youngster nad have been reading Jenny’s comment - I am from the UK originally and we didn’t have hospitals for the dolls there - I’m jealous.
I remember one of her names was Pearl, I don’t know which one, just knew it was also the name of an Aunt. - Cabbage Patch have gorgeous dolls, giving great memories. The only other doll I remember having is a strawberry shortcake - I don’t know if that meant I was deprived or have a bad memory.Lol.
In 1983 I was married with 2 young sons.
Growing up I had a Chatty Kathy, Betsy Wetsy, and my favorite given to me when I was 5 and in the hospital, a Judy Splinters. She was taller than I was, wearing real clothes that I could wear and real shoes.
The Cabbage patch dolls in 1983 was a period of time that i wish I has a daughter to buy for , But I had 2 sons and my brother had 2 sons and my baby sister has no children.

I remember my Mom waiting in line for hours to get my sister and me Cabbage Patch Doll! I don’t remember their names.
Both of my kids were born in the 80s but they were both boys, so no Cabbage Patch Kids at our house! But I’ve got a granddaughter who would really enjoy taking care of her own baby. Thanks for the chance to win your great giveaway!
I remember my mother desperately trying to find the dolls for my 2 girls, her granddaughters. She finally found them and had to almost fight for them. Luckily my daughters loved them so she thought it was worth the trouble.
I think I was more excited giving my daughter a Cabbage Patch Doll for Christmas 25 years ago than she was in getting it! I’d love to be able to give one to her 5 year old daughter even though she’s a tomboy! Thanks for the giveaway!
I got my Cabbage Patch doll when I was around 10 years old, her name was Christa Elaine and to this day I still have her. I bought my 6 year old daughter one a couple of years ago and for a while she forgot about her and didn’t play with her, but now she carries her everywhere, her name is Ceceila Wendy. I now have a daughter that is due anyday now and would love to win this one for her so she can have one to play with when she gets older. I think it’s so great to have a Cabbage Patch Doll and can’t believe they are still around! Thanks so much for such a wonderful opportunity!

when Cabbage patch first came out,I had a son an my sister had a daughter, who wanted one for christmas, soooooooo,my Mom an I went an stood in line for hours at BigK for one, needless to say I wasnt prepared for the running of the bulls at BigK for Cabbage Patch Dolls, but I ran with them, left my poor mother behind, they were snatched off the shelves so fast, wow, suddenly a man an I saw a few on the top shelf, but we couldnt reach them,of course all the people who worked there had run for shelter,so I was half the woman then as I am now,an 26 yrs old,so this guy says lady Ill lift you up an you can get the dolls on top,I said ok,sooooooo,he did,an I grabbed my doll an handed him down his doll,an then he left! He left me up there on that shelf!!!!!!!!MY mother came up an said <why Vickie what are you doing up there? I said I got Stacy her doll. an I handed it down to her, an she said how are you going to get down,I told her to go find me a big tall man,an she did,an he came an let me jump down on his back an we got that dang doll an got outta there, embarrassed yes,but happy I left with a doll for my niece,an told my sister ,next time she was on her own!
Hello, Thanks for the opportunity to win such a wonderful prize! I remember the antics that my mother-in-law went through trying to get the Cabbage Patch dolls for my sister-
in-law! She wasn’t my in-law then and she is the much younger adopted sibling of my husband. Sue would literally wait in line for hours trying to get the dolls, just to have them run out!!!!! I think she did eventually get hold of one of two for Heather. Please enter me in your delightful drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

My wife has told my daughter numerous stories about how she wished she had kept her cabbage patch baby that her aunt had waited hours to get for her.
This would be a nice surprise for her.
I have two of them! I still have them! One of them is left hand and i am left hand so that was kinda neat and it had pig tails too! I liked wearing my hair that way when I was little! Then I had one that was a boy and my mom won it from Kmart! That is also when know one could get them in stock! I still love my dolls til this day! They are put away for save keeping! Thanks!
Yes! I loved my CPK’s so! They would always get so dirty though! I think it killed my mom to see them out and about, since they were a special/pricey item for us! We got one for my son when he was to become a big brother, and I TOTALLY think it helped him adjust to the new role! Now, I’ve finally got a girl, and cannot wait to start buying dolls for her! No Barbies for us! CPK for Christmas, maybe??

My first Cabbage Patch had long blond hair in pig tails and blue eyes. Here name was Molly Emmy. Then my mom made me a boy “Cabbage Patch”. I also had a Koosas - an orange cat I named cupcake. I was able to pass them all on the my daughter not to long ago.

I loved Cabbage Patch Kids when I was younger, and I actually thought they came from a real cabbage patch! Thats how I actually started eating cabbage, because thats what I thought my doll ate so I had to eat it too, my parents were pretty pleased that I found a doll that made me want to eat my veggies lol!
I remember how much I wanted to have a Cabbage Patch Doll, so my mom got me one at the end. Her name was Lilly and I loved her very, very much. She had very long brown hair, blue eyes and pink dress. Recently I gave her to my little daughter.
My daughter received 3 Cabbage Patch cuties for Christmas one year and I still have many many happy memories of the joy on her face when she saw what Santa brought!
Eeek! I still love CPKs! I even bought original soft sculptured ones as a grown up. I guess I never outgrew my love of them.
My first CPK I bought by myself. I think I was 8. Every other kid had one in school but being immigrants, my family wasn’t too clued in but I had money saved up. Anyways, I got my Athlea Camelia. So soon after dragging her around all over the place, my mom got me (Althea, aka Christie) clothes for Christmas! That meant the world to me as my ‘kid was accepted into the family! Another story was when I sent away for the birthday card and I accidentally put only 1 cent as postage. Who knew they had other numbers on them? But the nice postman delivered it anyways. Sniff. Good childhood memories. That’s why I still love them to this day.
My mom made us the generic version of the Cabbage Patch Doll. I named her April Marie. I’d love to give this one to my daughter. I’m not skilled enough to make one.

My first on was delivered by Xavier way back before they were popular. It was unique and kind of ugly at the time but it was mine. Since then I’ve gone to GA to get one for each of my kids. Now we’re working on the grand kids. None of the kids or grand kids knows why I must get them a CP doll for their 4th birthdays, it’s just what I do.
I remember the one and only cabbage patch doll I had as a child. It was the cabbage patch kids baby doll. I can’t even remember what we named her, though I think it my have been Jessie. We found her at the park by the bathrooms covered in mud and all around in bad shape. I think there was even mildew. My mother let us bring the nasty thing home and she even washed her and got the mildew out somehow. I remember thinking that hot summer day was like Christmas. We were really poor and I was a twin so its not like my parents could get just one if they bought them for birthday/Christmas. Besides we not only got to adopt her, we got to rescue her as well.

I can remember my mother and grandmother waiting in line for HOURS just to get their hands on one. The first attempt brought them home empty handed but they returned and eventually got one for my sister and I. It’s similar to the madness people show these days for video game systems. Oh times have changed!
I still have my doll and was thrilled to see my toddler’s eyes light up when I pulled in out a few months ago for her to discover. She now loves to play with my doll and I would love to have one to give her as her very own…to one day pass on to her children. *sniff, sniff* m_huston(at)hotmail(dot)com
my favorite memory isn’t from my childhood it is from right now. Watching my 3 year old play with MY OLD cabbage patch is the sweetest thing ever. I would love to get her her very own.

My son got a cabbage patch when he was young. I can’t remember his name. He had a cowboy type outfit. My son loved that doll and took him everywhere. When his younger brother came along he passed his cabbage patch friend to him. My youngest son donated him when he out grew his little friend. Now my oldest son has a daughter. This would be so special for him to give his daughter a very special friend of her own. A Cabbage Patch that she can adopt and take care of like her Daddy did when he was young. I was not able to get one for my son but someone in the family had found his special friend. I remember Mommies at a local toy store grabbing these little cuties. They were so popular and everyone wanted one. I think they are just the cutest. My granddaughter would just love her. Thank you for bringing back memories and a chance to win this little cutie.
My first Cabbage Patch was named Hope Edna. I got her for Christmas and there is a picture of me super excited! My sister got one too and her doll’s name was Iris Dorkus. I always thought that name was so funny. We used have tea parties with our dolls in the back yard. My daughter has recently started playing with my Cabbage Patch Doll and drags her around by her hair. (there is actually a photo I posted yesterday on my blog of her playing with it) I would love for her to have her own! Thanks!

I have had several cabbage patch dolls. The thing is this would be something wonderful for me to give my 6 year old on her 7th birthday. October 9th. She has never had one and it would be great for her to see her face light up. What a joy!
I remember opening up our presents on Christmas Day, my sister, brother and I each got packages, from Santa, that were shaped the same…we had to open at the same time, so it was a race to get it opened first….I got DeeDee and my sister got LuLu our little brother got Breston. DeeDee is now my daughter’s first Cabbage Patch Kid, I gave it to her when she turned 1 a few months ago. She carries DeeDee with her everywhere….we have our fingers crossed that Santa will come through for Abbey this year so she can have her own CPK
I remember the first Christmas these wonderful dolls came out. I was standing in line getting ready to pay for The 3 dolls I had for my daughters when a couple women actually had a fist fight in the toy department fighting over the last Cabbage Patch doll.
Needless to say they both were arrested without that last Cabbage Patch doll so one other child was able to enjoy hers that year. All I could say was shame on those mothers. Thank you so much for the wonderful contest! Now remember no fights.

Oh..so many memories. Cabbage Patch Kids came out when I was 8. I begged my mother day after day to have one for Christmas. Every day, she would tell me the same story. “Sorry, I could’nt find one, they are all sold out.” Well, to my amazement, when Christmas morning came around, there was my beautiful doll waiting for me under the tree. My mother had waited in line for NINE hours to get me my coveted doll. Her name was Evangeline. She had short sandy brown looped hair and blue jeans with the awesome purple plastic jacket. So stylish. For some reason I did not like her name and sent in the paperwork and had it changed to Cathy Lee.
I cherished Cathy and toted her everywhere. I cried the day the stitch popped on her knee, leaving her slightly deformed. Poor Cathy. It got worse for her the day my youngest brother decided to give her a mohawk. She (and I) never truly recovered.

My first cabbage patch was a redheaded boy named Newton. The second one was a preemie named Gunther. And I have twin redheaded girls named CeCe and Catherine. I “legally” changed their names because I wanted twins named Cecelia and Catherine. BTW, Cecelia was a character on Another World, a soap I was addicted to at the time. I could play dolls AND watch soaps. Such a wonderful time for me!
My family’s first Cabbage Patch doll was a brunette (I’m afraid I can’t recall her name; she was my oldest daughter’s pride and joy though.) I won her as an instant win prize by buying a bag of cookies. This was a very long time ago now…. Of course we went on to add other Cabbage Patch dolls to our family. My son had a little boy one with a peaked denim cap. I know if I called the kids THEY would remember the names; those dolls are still being played with by my grandchildren.

I remember in 1983 (I was 7) when CPK first came out. They were so expensive (at least that’s what mom said) but she entered a sweepstakes and ended up winning two of them. One for my sister and I both. We were one of the first ones in our school to have them.
My friends at my busstop had them and I begged and begged my parents. Thank goodness they bought me my birthday gift early. I am born in December and by the time my birthday came there were none left. My father complained in JC penny when he saw the price. He even said we are paying this for a ragdoll. Later he wished we bought more and sold them.
My mom used to work at Mervyns back when these dolls first came out (1984 ish…sheesh, that makes me old!!) Anyway, when she worked there, Mervyn’s had an AWESOME toy department. The day the dolls came out, women were fighting over them in the store. My mom knew how badly I wanted one. (a girl Cabbage Patch of course) She happened to find one after work but all that was left was a bald one, and it was a boy! She bought it, bought a preemie girl baby outfit, and put it on the doll. I opened it up, and I was SO excited! My doll was a “girl” but had a boy name so I questioned my mom how that could happen. She said, I don’t know, just send in the adoption papers and change the name. So I did. After that “he” was known as Amy Elizabeth!
I remember how difficult it was to get a Cabbage Patch doll as a kid! I cried and cried that all of my friends had one but I did not. Finally, to my surprise, my parents bought me one. I couldn’t have been happier.
I just remember all the chaos at the stores when these were released. Watching people fight each other over a doll on television and wondering why everyone was going crazy over them. Looking back, things were pretty tame compared to what people do to each other now for hard to find toys.
I remember my first CPK
She was this shirt haired boy looking girl.
I instantly adored her. For the life of me I cannot remember her name. But it’s ok, I still remember all my memories of her. I had all the accessories as well. And even a CPK pet, I think they were called Kussa’s(SP?) It looked like a dog somewhat. Anyhow, I remember the outfit my CPK had on. It was a grey sweat suit with green trim.Oh how I loved my CPKids
They were my favorite toy. *sighs* What memories!
I never had one, but I wanted one desperately. Everybody I knew had one. Everybody. My Cabbage Patch memories are filled with yearning and jealousy.
I got Katie May when I was 4yrs old from my grandpa. I still treasure her and always will. She still sleeps on my bed everyday while I’m at work. Would love to have another to join her. Thanks!
I married a man who did not want childern. I worked in a newborn nursery and would get these maternal pangs. One day a cabbage patch doll was delivered to my house. I had won a cute blonde haired doll which I named Justin.
I remember that I had a whole pile of them! Parents, grandparents, autns, sisters — everytbody gave me one as a gift. But I don’t remember any of their names! How sad.
I remeber when my daughter wanted one, my poor husband worked for a bread company and left for work at 2am in the morning. Everyday he would stop along his route and stand in lline for the doll. Finally he bribed a manager with bread and cupcakes to hold one for him. When he got it he put it in his route truck and continued with his route happy he go this princess the doll. Lo and behold while he was serving the route someone stole it. He was so distraught. The next day he told the manager of the store .One of the cahsiers heard his sad story and in the true spirit of christmas she had two dolls and gave him one. She wouldnt even let him pay for it. So we made toy donations in her name to Toys for Tots. I have not ever forgotten that nice lady who helped out a distraught Daddy. my daughter is 38 she still has her doll
