I hate Monday.

My water was shut off this morning. I haven’t made any tea yet or anything, I’m freaking thirsty and I want a shower.

I finally got through and they need me to come in. The water was in the landlords name, and when I called when we moved in the water company told me that the owner of the home needed to change it. I told the landlord that, and he told me not to worry about it right away.

I call today and the landlord had the water taken out of his name and said that the house was vacated on January 1st. I didn’t move in until July, I’m certainly not going to pay a bill for the entire year! And I also found out that the information I was given when I called previously was wrong, and someone just didn’t feel like making a new account and doing their job so they sent me away thinking everything was fine.

So I have to bring them my signed lease to their office and set up a new account. I told her I’ve never received a water bill here so I have no idea how much to bring with me to get the water turned back on. She told me I didn’t need any money today that it will all go over to billing and be on my first bill.

So, now I’m worried that my first water bill is going to be huge and insane and I’m not going to be able to afford it and the water is going to end up turned back off again.

This totally messed up my whole day. I was trying to get a doctor’s appointment for today and was actually on hold at the doctor’s office when they came and put the tag on my door. Now, I’m afraid to do anything without knowing how much the water bill is.

I know that gas and electric rates have gone up recently. My electric bill this month was honking huge at 300 dollars for our tiny little 1,000 square foot house. I still don’t understand why or how that is even possible. Even just looking at that sentence is absurd.

300 dollars to pump electricity into my tiny house? I’m practically ready to unpack my tent and go live in the campground or something, because it’s just so ridiculous and I am so stressed out.

How is your Monday going?

  2. Luckily, my Monday is going better than yours:) Cleaning up the house for a Halloween party this Saturday. The whole family went grocery shopping together after my daughter came home from kindergarten. Little two went to bed by 7pm, so my husband and I had quality time with our 5 year old. All in all, a pretty good day. Hope you have water for that cup of tea and shower:)

  3. My electricity/water bill is 100 dollars for 2 months… if your using 300 a month… well to be fair your insane.

Turn some crap off… unplug what you dont need which is probably everything.

  4. @Will, like I said there have been two rate increases here in the past two months. But thank you for confirming my insanity for me.

It is not that I’m using an insane amount of electricity -lol- I have all brand new energy efficient appliances in this house since it was just renovated before we moved in. The only appliances that didn’t come with the house are the washer and dryer and those are also new HE energy efficient appliances.

I’m waiting to hear back from the electric company to see what is going on and have my meter checked again to be sure there wasn’t a misread as well.

  5. To clarify that I don’t need to “unplug some crap” the only things currently on in my house are my computer and my modem, and the fridge — the lights are all off since it’s the middle of the day, the air conditioning and heat are not on, I’m not fueling a circus here LOL

  6. Hm, have you checked for gremlins recently? I hear they can do quite a damage to the household :))
