Beware the service pack…

A small pleasure in a world of mess. The past week has been a bit of a chaotic mess for me. There have been boys in and out of my house like crazy, spending the night, showering, wrestling, drumming …. lots of stuff happening there.
My husband’s oldest brother and his 2 boys are in town visiting for a few days, and of course everyone is happy to see him. It’s a shame that he has to leave Monday morning. We’ll be heading over that way later tonight for a bit of a cook out to hang out with all the kiddos. Hopefully his middle brother can make it as well, he just had surgery for a deviated septum and all the medication they gave him has him feeling a bit loopy and he gets lightheaded if he’s up and about too much.
I had the utility bill blues last week as I’m sure you noticed. And while those are still floating around in the back of my mind, more recently my desktop computer crashed on me. It seems to mostly have to do with Windows Service Pack 3. I’ve never seen so many people in line for the Geek Squad at Best Buy before. It was an hour and a half just to get up to the counter to talk to someone, and there were quite a few techs there helping people, answering questions, and eventually carrying PC’s to the back room for repair.
They told us 2 to 5 business days and we’d have our computer back and running smoothly. By the end of the week I’m sure they’ll be able to repair the problems caused by the Windows Service Pack 3 in their sleep. From what I’ve read online so far it seems to be affecting computers with AMD processors, which my desktop has because that was my preference. My laptop (that I am typing to you from right now and has service pack 3 with no issues) has an Intel processor, because that was all that was available in the model I wanted at the time. A blessing in disguise?
Anyhow, if your computer hasn’t downloaded it yet, please be careful when it asks you to download and install the latest Windows Service Pack. A lot of folks, particularly those with AMD processors and/or computers that are more than 2 years old running XP, are having problems.

My mom and BOTH MY KIDS computers took a dump when they updated to SP3, running Intel processors. It was a bitch to fix them, but now I could do it in my sleep. Maybe I should start a business fixing wonky SP3 boxes. LOL!

Ok, now I’m totally skeered and don’t know what to do – so I’m going to do nothing. If I have time later – maybe I’ll look into seeing if my puters can handle it! Argh!!

Ugh…the dreaded service pack 3. Been there done that, for sure. I almost makes you wonder if Microsoft actually tests the stuff they make before setting it loose on the buying public!
