Chef Ethan makes Dump Cake

I first read about the Dump Cake over at Jenn Cooks. It became a fast favorite for us. The best part is how easy it is to make. So super easy. Even I can’t mess this up. Only four ingredients, which I have memorized, and an hour in the oven at 350.
The first time I made this was back in August while I was visiting family. My mom and stepdad both had to work, so we took of making something yummy to eat and Dump Cake has been requested at least three times since that debut appearance.
To demonstrate how absolutely easy this is to make, Chef Ethan is making the whole thing, no help from me other than to snap the pictures and to take the finished product out of the oven.
First, we gathered the stuff we needed; can of cherry pie filling, can of crushed pineapple, box of cake mix, stick of butter or margarine…

Then Chef Ethan dove right in, and didn’t even need me to go through the directions, because he remembered it all from last time. He even reminded me to preheat the oven for him!
Step 1. Dump can of pie filling….

… oops blurry pic -lol-
Step 2. Dump can of crushed pineapple….
Spread that out, and you can sort of mix the cherry and pineapple together if you want, but you don’t have to.
Step 3. Dump package of cake mix….

Step 4. Slice up your stick of butter and scatter the chunks around on top of the cake mix.
I had a pic of this, but you couldn’t see anything, oops. Bad picture taking mommy.
Step 5. Bake at 350 degrees F for about one hour.

Step 6. Serve, preferably with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Or if you don’t have any on hand, the dump cake on it’s own is still totally yummy. I like mine still warm, but it’s okay cold too.

Yumm!

I love to bake and have heard of dump cake before but never had a recipe for it – now I do – thanks! I can’t wait to try it sometime. Seeing the pictures reminds me of some sort of “magic” cake my 3rd grade teacher made as a special activity for our class…putting cherry pie filling in the bottom of the pan and covering it with cake mix…and the “magic” was seeing how the fruit had risen to the top of the pan after it had baked. I bet it was this same recipe!
The chef looks quite confident in his role! Thank you for sharing your recipe!

Oooh looks scrumpdiliumcious!
I’ll have to try that with my oldest who loves to bake and unfortunately this mama don’t bake, so he usually has to wait until Grandma visits. But, I think I can handle this one.

Yup, super easy to make and totally bad for you with all that butter on top -lol- but so yummy! It’s like the perfect cross between cake and pie.
Great pics! It is great to get the little ones involved in cooking at a young age. They tend to grow up and not be afraid of the kitchen. My wife is always talking about our two boys and how they will be able to cook. They are always in the kitchen helping out.
You seem like a great mother!

If I was a bachelor and found a recipe like this, I would become a very round bachelor. The recipe is too easy
And I can imagine exactly how good it tastes

i like the idea but i dont think I would eat that. too much fruit, not enough other stuff
I’m not sure that pie filling counts as actual fruit :-p
