No School Monday on Account of Explosion

When Dylan came home this morning from spending the night at his best friend’s house, the last thing I expected to hear from them was “Our school blew up this morning. Did you see?” Usually I just hear, “We’re hungry. What’s for breakfast? Can we get the football?” I knew the school was having repairs done from the recent Noreaster storm that tore off a section of their roof.

From what I’ve heard so far the construction crew was using propane to melt the roof tar (which sounds kind of unsafe and not so smart to begin with) when the explosion happened early this morning. This is what the school looks like now.

8 people were rushed to the hospital for serious injuries from the scene. Additionally, a 75 year old man was taken to the hospital after being in a car wreck with an ambulance that was on it’s way to the scene at the school. The ambulance had lights and sirens on, but the man pulled out in front of it, causing a collision. He was said to be doing well at the time, we haven’t heard much in the way of updates on the 8 people that were hurt in the explosion yet.

School is expected to re-open and schedules return to normal for students on Tuesday. This is the middle school, so only Dylan is off school tomorrow. Lucas, Ethan, and Noah all still have class as usual. Although, Ethan said he should have the day off, “because Carver is right next door and it will smell like explosion,” according to him -lol- It’s very true that his school is right next door, actually right behind Dylan’s school, but not close enough to have had any damage done to it and it certainly won’t smell like explosion. Silly little boy!

Omigosh – that’s crazy!!! We had an explosion once at our old school, but, it was nowhere as big of a deal as that!! The kids did miss school, though. Hope you and Dylan are having a nice day together! ;)
